RWE Innogy

In 2008, RWE npower renewables became part of RWE Innogy, one of Europe’s largest and fastest-growing renewables generating companies. Adding biomass to wind and water technologies, RWE Innogy aims to have a total 4,500MW capacity in operation or under construction by 2014. It currently has 45 operating renewable energy projects - ranging from 0.5MW of hydro power at Dulyn, Wales to 92MW of wind power in Farr, Scotland.

Wind - 26 wind farms (two offshore) - combined capacity of 580MW. A typical 2MW wind turbine can generate enough electricity to meet the average needs of over 1,000 homes each year. The UK’s first major offshore wind farm is at North Hoyle off the North Wales coast and generating enough electricity to meet the demand of some 40K households each year. The wind farm supplies npower Juice. Lochelbank and Novar Extension wind farms are currently under construction (9.3MW and 32MW). In 2010 two new wind farms were completed at Lindhurst and An Suidhe.

Hydro - 19 hydro stations with a combined capacity of 68MW. Construction continues on the 3.5MW BlackRock scheme in Scotland and our new Hydro scheme in Selset, England was completed in January 2011.

Marine - the npower juice fund was established in 2003 to help bring forward fledgling renewable energy technologies, with a particular focus on supporting marine energy developments. The fund is unique in Europe and is financed by npower on behalf of customers who sign up to npower juice. What would become the largest wave power project in the world, was given approval by the Scottish Government in April 2009 – the Siadar Wave Power Project is off the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. This is a joint project with Wavegen, a world-leading wave power company based in Inverness.
