Newark & Sherwood's elderly population learns about staying Warm, Well and Wise
Older people from Collingham gathered at Collingham’s Memorial Hall last week to hear about the services available to them to help them stay safe, healthy and independent.
The Warm, Well and Wise event, sponsored by npower’s Health Through Warmth scheme, was organised by Collingham and District Village Care and chaired by Andrew Hindmarsh. It was designed to raise awareness of the services available to local older people, and to encourage them to engage directly with local organisations.
Representatives from Health Through Warmth attended the event along with staff from The Alzheimer’s Society, Newark Falls team, Nottinghamshire Fire Service, Collingham Practice Nurses, Nottinghamshire County Council, Newark and Sherwood Energy Services, Collingham Rural Advice Centre, Nottinghamshire Police Service.
Chris Gilchrist, area co-ordinator for the Health Through Warmth scheme, managed locally by Newark & Sherwood District Council, commented: “Health Through Warmth decided to sponsor the Warm, Well and Wise events after hearing about the fantastic work the scheme was doing in the local community. It puts organisations, such as ours, in touch with the people who most need our help.” Newark and Sherwood Community and Voluntary Service hold the funding and help co-ordinate events. Eight have been planned for 2009/10.
