Single fuel customers who pay by monthly direct debit (MDD) will now receive larger discounts, up from £20, on their 12 month anniversary. MDD gas customers will receive £50 a year. MDD electricity customers will receive £40 for their annual discount, this is equivalent to an additional 4.8% reduction on their annual electricity bill.**
Additionally npower has introduced a new discount of £10 per year for Dual Fuel customers who pay on receipt of bill.
Kevin Miles – CEO of npower retail said:
“We always aim to offer competitive prices to our customers and we have lowered our gas prices although our profits halved in 2009. The combined profit from supplying nearly 6.8 million accounts and operating 9 power stations was equivalent to just 9p a day for each customer account.”

Notes to Editors:
· * Weighted average across the npower customer base taking into account, payment method, fuel holding and region. The reduction also reflects changes made to our discount structure. Calculated using Ofgem medium user consumption figures of 20,500kwhs of gas pa.
· **All our monthly direct debit Dual Fuel customers enjoy £100 discount which they receive on the anniversary of when they first joined npower. The composition of the discount will be changed from £20 Gas, £20 Electricity, and £60 for taking both fuels and paying by monthly direct debit; to £50 Gas, £40 Electricity for paying by monthly direct debit and £10 for taking both fuels.
